Plockton

Plockton is one of the most charming villages in the Scottish Highlands, set on a sheltered bay overlooking Loch Carron with views that feel more Mediterranean than Highland on a sunny day. Famous for its palm trees, colourful harbour and relaxed coastal atmosphere, Plockton offers a completely different side of Scotland — calm, picturesque and wonderfully unhurried.

Once a small fishing village, Plockton has long been connected to the sea, and that heritage is still very much alive today. Fishing boats gently bob in the harbour, seals are often spotted nearby, and the village is renowned for its fresh local seafood, particularly shellfish landed straight from the loch. It’s a fantastic place to pause, stretch your legs and soak up the coastal scenery.

Plockton has also appeared on screen, most notably as the fictional village of Hamish Macbeth, adding to its quiet fame. Despite this, it has retained an authentic feel, with traditional cottages, friendly local businesses and a strong sense of community.
