The Highland Odyssey
The Highland Odyssey is a carefully curated multi-day journey through Scotland’s most iconic landscapes, historic sites and island scenery. Travelling from Edinburgh through the Highlands and the Isle of Skye, the tour blends dramatic mountain glens, coastal villages, castles and whisky distilleries with time to explore at a relaxed, unhurried pace. From Loch Ness to Skye and back through the heart of the Highlands, this experience showcases the very best of Scotland in comfort and style.
Day 1: Edinburgh to Oban
The journey begins with views of the Forth Bridges and the Kelpies before heading west into the Highlands. Choose between historic Stirling Castle or Doune Castle, with the option to visit Deanston Distillery beside the River Teith. Pass through Callander with a stop at Kilmahog to meet Highland cows – Hamish, Honey, and Baxter. Enjoy Highland scenery at Loch Lubnaig followed by lunch at Mhor84, before continuing via Killin and the Falls of Dochart. The road winds along the valley past Castle Stalker, perched on its island in Loch Laich, arriving in the coastal town of Oban for the evening.
Day 2: Oban to Portree
Take in elevated views over Oban from McCaig’s Tower before heading north through the western Highlands. Explore the dramatic scenery and history of Glencoe, with an optional visit to the Glenfinnan Viaduct and monument overlooking Loch Shiel. Stop at Eilean Donan Castle, positioned where three sea lochs meet, before crossing the Skye Bridge and arriving into Portree, Skye’s colourful harbour town.
Day 3: Isle of Skye
A full day exploring Skye’s most iconic landscapes from a Portree base. Discover the dramatic rock formations of the Quiraing and the sea cliffs of Kilt Rock, where Mealt Falls drop vertically into the Sound of Raasay. Visit the Fairy Glen, offering a gentler, more whimsical contrast to Skye’s rugged scenery. Optional whisky tasting at Talisker Distillery, Skye’s oldest working distillery, set beside Loch Harport. Return to Portree for a relaxed evening by the harbour.
Day 4: Portree to Inverness via Loch Ness
Leave Skye behind and travel to the mainland, stopping in the coastal village of Plockton with its palm trees and sheltered bay. Follow the Great Glen through classic Highland scenery toward Loch Ness. Visit Fort Augustus and watch boats navigate the Caledonian Canal locks. Travel along the shores of Loch Ness, passing Urquhart Castle and stopping at Dores Beach, before arriving in Inverness to conclude the day.
Day 5: Inverness to Edinburgh
Begin with a visit to Culloden Battlefield, site of the pivotal 1746 battle that shaped Highland history. Optional stop at Dalwhinnie Distillery, Scotland’s highest, known for its smooth single malt. Continue south to Blair Castle, ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl and headquarters of Europe’s only remaining private army. Travel through the gentler landscapes of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park before returning to Edinburgh.
