The Heart of the Highlands

Day 1: Edinburgh to Inverness

Departing Edinburgh, your adventure begins as you cross the iconic Forth Bridges — three remarkable structures representing three centuries of Scottish engineering. The city fades behind you, replaced by rolling countryside and forested hills. Your first stop is Pitlochry, a charming Victorian town nestled in the heart of Perthshire, before continuing to House of Bruar for lunch — often called “the Harrods of the North” — where you can enjoy traditional Scottish dishes and browse the luxury food hall. After lunch, choose between visiting Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, or heading to Loch Morlich, a rare freshwater beach set against pine forests and mountain peaks in the Cairngorms. For a taste of Highland tradition, stop at Dalwhinnie Distillery, Scotland’s highest, before arriving in Inverness — the capital of the Highlands — where you’ll spend the evening exploring this relaxed riverside city.

Day 2: Inverness to Edinburgh

After breakfast, begin with a visit to Culloden Battlefield, where the final Jacobite battle was fought in 1746 — a moving site that offers powerful insight into Scottish history. Travel west to Fort Augustus, where the Caledonian Canal meets the legendary Loch Ness, before continuing south to Fort William for lunch beneath Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. From here, journey into the dramatic valley of Glencoe, famous for the Three Sisters mountain range, where breathtaking scenery combines with powerful history. Pass the tranquil waters of Loch Tulla before arriving in Killin, where the Falls of Dochart cascade through the village centre. Meet some of Scotland’s most loved residents — the Highland cows Hamish, Honey, and Baxter — before your final stop at Doune Castle, famous for its roles in Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Monty Python. As evening approaches, return to Edinburgh after two days filled with dramatic landscapes and true Highland hospitality.
